Desamparados will bring lots of orchids
February 14, 2012

Orchid lovers will have the opportunity to observe and purchase them at very accessible prices, where you can find from white and purple Guarias, Trichopilias, Lluvias, Catleyas, Phalaenopsis and Dendrobiums, to colorful hybrid plants

Orchids:

Orchids belong to a plant family that is known for the complexity of its flowers and for its ecological interactions with pollinators and fungi.

The family has 25.000 species and around 60.000 hybrids, being one of the families with the largest number of species among angiosperms.

Orchids are part of a very diverse group of plants, which can have from a few millimeters in length to huge dimensions of even 13,4 m and weight several kilograms.

They’re found in most part of the world, especially in the tropics. Their adaptability has allowed them to conquer many ecological niches, from the driest and hottest to the most humid, coolest places on Earth.

Their particular beauty attracts hundreds of collectors to the event. Many different types of orchids will decorate the IX National Orchid Fair.

The Fair will take place on February 17th, 18th and 19th, 2012 in the Gymnasium of Villa Olimpica in Desamparados.

If you visit Costa Rica during these days, come to this activity and spend the most wonderful nights at the Hotel Parque del Lago, which has a perfect location and the best customer service.

Preserving and rescuing orchids through cultivation methods and sensitizing people about the importance of observing ecological criteria in the management of orchids are the main objectives of the Fair.

Orchid lovers will have the opportunity to observe and purchase them at very accessible prices, where you can find from white and purple Guarias (Costa Rica’s National Flower), Trichopilias, Lluvias, Catleyas, Phalaenopsis and Dendrobiums, to colorful hybrid plants.

The event will have a schedule from 8:00am to 7:00pm on Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday it will be open from 8:00am to 6:00pm. The entrances cost ¢1.500 (around $3) for adults and ¢1.000 (around $2) for children.
