Costa Rica started the preparations for the International Congress on Medical Tourism taking place on April 23rd-25th, 2012 in Santa Ana.
The Council for the International Promotion of Medicine in Costa Rica (PROMED), along with the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) are in charge of the event.
Once more Costa Rica wants to establish commercial relations to improve the position of the country as leader destination for medical trips.
The Congress will have the presence of important personalities and experts in matters of public health, quality, the patient’s safety and service marketing.
Medical tourism faces important challenges since more and more countries compete to attract the possible patients.
The most common procedures in Costa Rica chosen by the tourists are: dentistry (36%), plastic and esthetic (12%), orthopedics-bariatric-cardiovascular (22%) and medical treatments (14%).
The Congress of 2011 opened new opportunities for foreign patients to find in Costa Rica treatments in esthetics, orthopedics and against diabetes. Nine countries participated: United States, Canada, Thailand, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador and Argentina.
The Costa Rican providers of medical services must keep a leading position among the large number of countries that wish to increase their participation in the market.
PROMED estimates an attendance of 500 people to this Congress 2012.
