The Hotel Parque del Lago invites you to visit the exhibit “Felids in the archaeology of Costa Rica: between the past and the present”, where you can learn about the diversity of felids and the problems they have in the Museums of the Central Bank, located in San Jose.

The exhibit has 50 pre-Columbian pieces made in metal, vases, bowls, vessels, pots, pendants and ocarinas that represent the 6 felids that live in Costa Rica: the jaguar, the ocelot, the oncilla, the margay, the cougar and the jaguarundi.

According to Patricia Fernandez, curator of archaeology of the Museums of the Central Bank, “some pieces are more realistic and reproduce with great detail the characteristics of these animals, like the head, body or legs. There are other images that are more outlined where the features are harder to recognize”, as reported by La Nacion.com

The exhibit is the result of the research of Eduardo Carrillo, from the National University, and Gustavo Gutierrez, from the University of Costa Rica, both experts who identified the archaeological materials of the different types of felids.

In this display you can be part of interactive games where you can learn how to distinguish the felids that live in Costa Rica. You can also find fun facts about these animals and some recommendations on how to protect them.

Below the Plaza de la Cultura is where you can visit this exhibit, only a few minutes away from Hotel Parque del Lago, every day from 9:15am to 5:00pm until December 2012. The entrance costs ¢1.500 (around $3).
